  • Serum cholesterol and lipoprotein data from a continuing study of initially healthy young men have been analyzed. Weight gain and a family history of vascular disease were found to be associated with higher cholesterol levels and with greater concentrations of very low density lipoproteins (Sf 20-400 which transport the majority of triglyceride). The results are discussed in the light of present information related to lipid transport and the pathogenesis of coronary artery disease
