Résumé ou extrait
- This book documents the technician and researcher's experience with the restoration of tinted and toned films at the Cinemateca Brasileira, from 2008 to 2024. Drawing on this experience, it outlines the technical development of color in cinema and explores possibilities for conservation and restoration, especially the Desmet restoration method - a technique created by the restorer Noël Desmet, from the restoration lab at the Royal Belgian film Archiv. One of its goals is to serve as a technical handbook for professionals and institutions, addressing identification, cataloging and preservation possibilities according to early film coloring techniques. It thus provides a comprehensive overview of restoration possibilities, aiming both to describe technical procedures and recover historical methods for coloring silent cinema. Included in a appendix are interviews with Noël Desmet, Patricia de Filippi and Luigi Pintarelli.
