• Au travers des guerres dans les Balkans, en Afghanistan, en Tchétchénie, l'auteur dénonce le manque de paix et de résolution des conflits des 15 dernières années. Il traite de l'industrie de la guerre depuis Napoléon et Clausewitz, de la guerre froide (guerilla, Mao-Tse-Tong), de l'influence de la guerre sur les peuples (exemple de la Bosnie).
• Why do we use military force to solve our political problems? And why do our forces win the military battles but this fails to solve those problems? It is because the force used lacks utility.
